A four-sided, erect, smooth or slightly hairy stem bears narrrow, compact, terminal flowerheads. Individual flowers small (1/6 to 1/3" wide), tubular, distinctly 5-lobed and pinkish purple. (Photographed - July)

Leaves opposite, lance-shaped, with a short petiole and coarsely toothed.
