Stands of 2 to 5 foot tall sunflowers with smooth stems and leaves with a rough upper surface.

Flower heads, about 2 to 3 inches wide, with yellow disks and 8 to 20 yellow ray flowers. Leaves opposite, lance-shaped, and thick; most stakless or at best with a ¼ inch long stalk.
