Stems terminating in a rather loose cluster of small (about ¼ inch long) whitish
green to whitish pink flowers in which the parts are not readily distinguishable
but the margins have 5 lobes. Stems four-sided with each corner having many backward
curved prickles. Similarly hooked prickles line the lower surace of the
main rib of each leaf. (Photographed – late August) |
A sprawling, weak-stemmed herb of marshy regions. Long branching stems with widely
separated leaves. Leaves alternate and lance-shaped with a smooth margin. |
