Flowerhead composed of all disk flowers below which are many spiney, yellow-tipped bracts. Leaves extensively notched and bordered with many sharp spines. (Photographed - late July)

A tall, prickly, wing stemmed plant with relatively large, rose-purple flowerheads (1.5 to 2.5" high).
