A bushy shrub, 2 to 5 feet tall, of swamps and edges of lakes and streams. |

Usually a cluster of 5-petalled, pale pink flowers 1.5 to 2.5 inches wide. Leaves
usually consist of 7 dull green leaflets with finely serrated margins. Stipules
at the base of leaves narrow. Calyx persistent and spreading on fruit, which
