Both the flowerheads and leaves above water. Violet-blue flowers (about 1/3" long) along a spike of 3 to 4 inches. Flowers 2-lipped with each lip having three lobes (middle lobe of upper lip with 2 yellow spots). Leaves from 4 to 10 inches in length, heart-shaped at the base and tapering to a pointed tip.
