The flower, which opens upwards, has 3 petals and 3 petal-like sepals all of which
narrow to a stalked base with openings between each petal and sepal. Inner, lower
portion of petals and sepals yellowish with purplish-brown spots. Leaves (1
to 4 inches long), narrow, pointed and arranged in whorls of 3 to 8. (Photographed – mid-June) |
A single upright stem (1 to 3 feet tall) generally with a single (occasionally 2
to 5) striking orange to orange-red flower. |
