Yellow, star-like flowers (~1/2 inch wide) on a relatively long stalk originating
in the leaf axils. Base of petals fused with a reddish zone surrounding the protruding
stamens (5) and single pistil. Leaves (2 to 4 inches long) arranged in
a whorl of usually 4, but up to 6, which are lance-shaped and have entire margins.
