Violet flowers on long stalks arising in pairs from the leaf axils. Each tubular
flower (1 to 1.5 inches long) has two lips with the two lobes of the upper lip
held erect or bent backwards. The 3-lobed lower lip has a central yellowish-white
zone that arches to touch the inside of the upper lip. (Photographed - late July) |
An erect (1 to 3 feet tall) herb of wet places with a hairless, four-sided stem.

Leaves opposite, sharply toothed, lance-shaped, stalkless and almost clasping the
stem. |
