A leafless stem bears a single flower with a distinctive slipper-like expanded pouch, which is pink, markedly veined, has a central cleft and is about 2 to 2.5 inches long. Both sepals and lateral petals are greenish-brown and elongated.

The two basal leaves are 6 to 8 inches long, oval and prominently veined. Plants 6 to 15 inches tall.
