A 1 to 4 foot tall herb with numerous compound leaves each with 7 to 15 pairs of oblong leaflets. Stem usually not hairy. Multiple, elongated pea-type pale yellow to creamy coloured flowers (1/2 to ¾ inch long). Flowers arranged in a compact spike. Seed pods pea-like, but short and thick.
