Indian Pipe Family - Monotropaceae

Flower (0.5 to 1" long) has 5 petals, 10 to 12 stamens and a single darkish pistil. Leaves much reduced and appear as scales.

A fleshy, white, saprophytic herb in which the stem has scale-like bracts and terminates in a single nodding flower.
