Flowers, smallish (each petal about 0.25 inches long), five petalled and white, are arranged in loose umbrella-shaped clusters. Fruit red.

A tall shrub or short tree with, especially on the flowering branches, bronze-red bark spotted with oval orange lenticels (pores in the stems of woody plants).
Leaves alternate, toothed and oval to lance shaped.
