Flowers, about 0.5 inches wide, are somewhat unique in having 5 white petal-like sepals and 5 small, club-shaped petals. Leaves divided into 3 leaflets with coarse teeth.

This small herb (3 to 6 inches tall) has shiny, evergreen, basal leaves. Both leaves and flower stalks develop from narrow, bright yellow underground stems, hence the common name.
