Coptis groenlandica |
Buttercup Family - Ranunculaceae |
Flowers, about 0.5 inches wide, are somewhat unique in having 5 white petal-like
sepals and 5 small, club-shaped petals. Leaves divided into 3 leaflets with coarse
teeth. (Photographed with Elizabeth and Martin Lee - early June) |
This small herb (3 to 6 inches tall) has shiny, evergreen, basal leaves. Both leaves
and flower stalks develop from narrow, bright yellow underground stems, hence
the common name. |
