Zigzag or broad-leaved goldenrod
Solidago flexicaulis
Aster of Composite Family - Asteraceae
Pathology Images Inc. 2001 to  2002
The distinctive features of this 1 to 3 foot tall herb are the zigzag growth pattern of the smooth stem (angular in cross section) and the rather broad leaves that taper to a point at both ends. Leaves alternate, sharply toothed and short-stalked. Flowers in small groups at the upper leaf axils and terminally and each with only 3 to 4 yellow rays.
