Pink to purplish flowers about ½ inch long, tubular with 2 lips and 4 stamens that
so not protrude. Calyx with 5 elongated, pointed teeth surrounded by bracts also
with many sharply pointed teeth. Leaves paired, elliptical to lance-like, toothed
and at least the lower ones with a short stalk. (Photographed at Eagle Lake - June 26, 2002) |
A stout 4-sided stem terminates in a compact cylindrical spike composed of many bright
green bracts and small flowers. |
