Flowers are tiny, without petals and arranged in a pinkish-white dense cluster on a thickish stalk or spadix. This is partially hooded by a white oval and pointed bract or spathe about 0.75 to 1 inch long.

An aquatic herb found in swamps, marshes and along stream banks.
Leaves are basal, relatively thick, heart-shaped, 2 to 5 inches long and have a long stalk.
