Aster or Daisy Family - Asteraceae
Stem reddish. Basal leaves heart-shaped, rough and thick, sharply toothed and from 3 to 8 inches wide. Leaf stalk (petiole) has distinctly winged lateral margins.
A bushy herb (1 to 3 feet tall) with numerous flower heads (about � inches wide) having violet ray flowers and a yellow to reddish central disk.
