An erect herb (1 to 4' tall) with solitary or branching clusters of bright yellow flowers on hairy stalks and stems.
Basal leaves stalked and divided into 5 to 7 major leaflets interspersed with varying numbers of small leaflets. Terminal leaflets wedge-shaped at the base and often lobated. Upper leaves unstalked.
