A slender triangular stem (1 to 3 feet tall) bears numerous oval, densely flowered spikes, which are closely spaced to form acompact head usually 2 to 3 inches long. Bristle-like bracts below each spike. Leaves quiter narrow with at least a few longer than the flower stem.
