A compact, dome-shaped flower head has many elongated and tubular mauve to purplish-pink flowers. Each flower (about 1 inch long) has two lips with two stamens projecting beyond the upper lip, which has a bearded tip. Leafy bracts below the flower head may be pink colored. Stem square. Leaves opposite, triangular to lance-like, stalked and coarsely toothed.
