Polypodium virginianum
Polypody Family --- Polypodiaceae
Leaves in small groupings and generally a somewhat elongated triangular shape tapering gradually to a point. Leaflets, thickish, deep green, appearing paired but slightly alternate, are joined at their bases.
An evergreen, low-growing (4 to 12 inches tall) fern usually found in clusters or forming extensive mats over rocky outcroppings.
Spore producing bodies (sori) as two rows of reddish brown dots on the lower surface of leaflets.
