Bracken Fern |
Bracken Fern |
Each leaflet has lance-shaped, blunt tipped subleaflets, some of which are further
subdivided. The edges of subleaflets tend to roll under so that the marginal
strip of spore producing tissue appear to be hidden. (Photographed at Eagle Lake - August 18, 2002) |
Many single leaves, arising from a spreading underground stem, characterizes this
perennial fern and so it may cover large patches. The compound leaf (3-times divided)
has its three leaflets held horizontally at the end of the long upright
stalk. |
